Giving Tuesday, an annual event that takes place on the Tuesday following Black Friday, is the perfect time to show your support for nonprofits this holiday season. Local organization Backpack Blessings hopes you’ll lend a hand by spreading the word about their important mission.
Backpack Blessings provides nutritious, non-perishable food items to students each Friday to reduce weekend hunger and help prepare for Monday’s learning in the classroom. Now in its fourth year, the organization has grown to serve 565 students per week at nine schools in Walker County.
This story from one of the organization’s school coordinators highlights the amazing impact it has on the lives of local students:
“I have one student in particular that will usually ask me about his backpack blessing before Friday rolls around. I think he has so many inconsistencies in his life that he just wants to check and make sure that the food he gets each week will continue. When I tell him I will be sure and deliver it on Friday, he smiles and gives me a hug.”
Backpack Blessings encourages their volunteers and friends to share their story on social media or to donate to the cause. To donate, text ‘ybackpack’ to 71777 or visit https://app.mobilecause.com/vf/ybackpack.
