What is the Chamber of Commerce?

The Walker County Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary organization of professionals who have joined for promoting the civic and commercial progress of the county.

The Chamber's vision is "united to enchance the quality of life for the citizens of Walker County by promoting business, communities, tourism, and economic development."

The Chamber is governed by a board of directors who are elected on a yearly basis.

Executive Division
Division Chair: Lecia Eubanks
  • Executive Committee, Chair: Lecia Eubanks
    • Guide the operations, administration and finance of the Walker County Chamber of Commerce
    • Manage the Quality of Life Cabinet to be a resource for the Northwest Georgia Joint Development Authority.
Education & Community Development Division
Division Chair: Melody Day
  • Education Committee: Chair, Brenda Noblitt & Vice Chair, Jason Gamel
    • Continue the youth leadership program (CHAMPS)
    • County’s educational distinctions (ie: Chamber publications)
    • Put on the STAR program with the community high schools (February Membership Luncheon)
    • Put on the GOAL program with Northwestern Technical College (CHAMPS Graduation)
  • Leadership Walker County Committee: Chair, Susan Tankersley
    • Organize the 2010-11 Leadership Walker County class
    • Complete annual group project of working in the Information/Chamber booth at the Balloons & Tunes Festival (September 23 & 24, 2011)
  • Senior Citizen's Day Committee: Chair, Nelda Parrish
    • Organize the 2011 Senior Citizen’s Day event (May 18, 2011)
Member Services Division
Division Chair: Judy Jackson
  • Ambassador Committee: Chair, Mary Wooten & Vice-Chair, Lynne Cawthorne
    • Organize the 2011 Membership Appreciation picnic (September 9, 2011)
    • Support Chamber Member Ribbon Cuttings and groundbreakings
      • a. Develop a list of Chamber members in each area of the community to call in case extra support is needed
    • Support all Chamber functions, particularly fundraisers
    • Contact each Chamber Member via phone call, visit or card.
    • Establish a membership campaign to begin in late Spring 2011
  • "Best of Walker" Committee: Chair, Denise Shahan
    • Continue marketing alliance with media outlet (Walker County Messenger) to co-sponsor or advertise the event
    • Continue advertising supplement to follow announcements at reduced ad costs to winners/runners up (Walker County Messenger, Est. December 16, 2011)
    • Coordinate “Best of Walker” announcement at the Best of Walker Dinner (November 10, 2011)
Governmental & Legislative Affairs Division
Division Chair: Sherry Foster
  • Governmental Affairs Committee: Chair, Eddie Upsahw & Vice Chair, Carter Brown
    • Visit with the 2011 Georgia General Assembly in conjunction with Leadership Walker County (February 8, 2011)
    • Determine what issues we need to be concerned with as a Chamber
    • Forward the Georgia Chamber newsletter to the Chamber membership during the session to keep them informed of relevant issues
    • Sponsor a State of the County address by Commissioner Heiskell
    • Determine if it would be beneficial to host an Eggs & Issues breakfast for the 2012 Session. If yes, execute.
    • Host a Candidate’s Forum for the November 2011 elections (October 11, 2011)
    • Personally invite all elected public officials to the February Membership Luncheon
    • Attend the 2011 Georgia Chamber of Commerce Eggs and Issues Breakfast (January 25, 2011)
Business Development Division
Division Chair: Gary Woods
  • Business & Industry Committee: Chair, Rhonda Beasley
    • Honor the 2011 Small Business of the Year (January 27, 2011)
    • Honor the 2011 Walker County Manufacturer of the Year (April 26, 2011)
    • Host shop tours of local businesses or industry to share best pratices (1 per quarter)
    • Host two CEO Breakfasts for sharing information and industry trends & include Government Partners
    • Encourage businesses and industries to attend Eggs and Issues Breakfast (January 25, 2011)
    • Recruit new businesses and industries to join the Chamber
    • Offer resources to the NWGAJDA as needed for recruitment of new businesses and industries to Walker County
  • Tourism Committee: Chair, Deb Ellis
    • Host quarterly roundtable meetings at different tourism locations throughout the area in which a speaker will present relevant information (March 17, August 18, June 16 & November 17, 2011)
    • Help market any special tourism related events the Chamber holds
    • Compile the event information of county and Chamber members
    • Distribute county brochures to local tourism entities

    • Host a successful Golf Tournament fundraiser in 2011
