Thinking of moving to Walker County? The Walker County Chamber provides those new to the area with a newcomer's packet containing the information below and much more. Please note that if you are requesting a Walker County Map there will be a charge of $2.00 per map; before a map will be mailed a check must be received by the Chamber office. If you are moving to Walker County from out of state, you are required to obtain your auto tag within 30 days of residency. You must have a Georgia driver's license before you get a tag. You will need the mileage of the vehicle and proof of insurance. You may change the title and get new tags in LaFayette at the Walker County Annex III Building on Main Street or in Rossville at the Walker County North Tag Office at 2012 McFarland Avenue. Bring the original title or name and business of lien holder, proof of ownership and insurance. Ad valorem taxes are due on the birthday of the first person listed on the title or paperwork. Public TransportationWalker Transit offers service to Walker County residents to run errands, go to doctor's appointments, go to work, visit with family or friends or any other personal business. Walker Transit operates Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. To schedule a pick up, reservations must be made at least one day prior to your desired trip. Call (706) 375-0803 to schedule a pick up. For more information, visit the Walker County government website. TaxesCity, state and county real estate taxes are normally due by December 20 of each year. Individuals may be eligible for exemption based on age and income. All Georgia residents who own and occupy property as their primary residence qualify for homestead exemption. Returns are based on property owned January 1 of each year.
