Last year, more than $2,000 was raised for the Chickamauga Meals on Wheels program. This money helped fund 500 of the more than 9,400 meals delivered to local seniors in need last year. And, this year, we hope to raise even more so we can better support the seniors in our community.
SO, what are some of the benefits of the Meals on Wheels program?
The Meals on Wheels Program’s goal is to prevent the premature institutionalization of the elderly through better nutrition, education and social contact. In addition, this program provides regular wellness checks, referrals to other services available in the community, and nutrition counseling and education. Through the Meals on Wheels program, many of our home bound seniors have been able to stay in their homes while avoiding nursing home placement.
Finally, throughout the month of March and in support of the “March for Meals” program, the Chickamauga Active Living Center will be hosting special events, celebrations, and activities. And, please be certain to plan to attend the Open House and Health Fair hosted by the Chickamauga Active Living Center on March 31st.
