This weekend is a significant weekend for the Chickamauga battlefield. 2016 marks the 153rd anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, the Battle of Chickamauga. The battle was the first major battle of the Civil War to be fought in Georiga, which left 4,000 Union and Confederate men dead on the battlefied and another 34,000 wounded or missing.
The National Park Service would like to commemorate this anniversary by helping locals learn more about the history that took place in their home town. Weekend events will include living history exhibits, a caravan tour, bike tours, and the firing of four cannons.
Events are scheduled for Friday the 16th - Sunday the 18th.
